Release Highlights
Easier Access to Image Editing
When editing content that has a featured image, it's now possible to edit that image directly from the content form. Previously, editors that wanted to edit the image would need to find it in the media library. Click the new pencil icon alongside the existing remove icon to open a modal editing window for the image.
It's important to note that changes to the image will impact it everywhere it's used. For example, if News Article A and News Article B have the same featured image, and you edit the caption text of the image from within News Article A, it will also impact the image on News Article B. This new feature simply makes it easier to edit the media library item, which remains reusable throughout your site.

All Changes
Content Editing
- #1025: Fixed an issue where embedded videos would not display correctly in the back-end editor unless they were set to full width.
- #1226: Images selected for the "Featured Image" field on various content types can now be modified directly from the content form. Previously, a content editor would have to find the image in the media library and edit it from there. Click the new pencil button icon (next to the remove button icon) in the top right of the image thumbnail to open the editing modal window. This can be especially helpful when you want to make quick cropping adjustments to the image.
- #2686: On content entry forms, when adding a A individual item of content. For example, a page, a news article, and an event are all content items, which correspond to the Page, News, and Event content types, respectively. to a menu, the height of the dropdown menu for the “Parent link” select field has been doubled. This should improve usability on sites that have large menu trees, making it easier to find the appropriate parent menu link.
Design & Appearance
- #2318: Fixed an issue where characters from some characters sets (e.g. Turkish, Cyrillic) were not being displayed correctly.
- #2574: Improved the order of fields on the Person detail page for mobile display sizes for sites using the Scholar theme.
- #2636: Fixed an issue where users could access the settings form for the admin theme, Claro.

- #2580: The old Twitter icon in the Share/Print/Email links that display on the news and/or events detail pages has been updated to the new "X" logo.
News Importer
- #2589: Images imported as part of News Importer feeds will no longer appear in the site's media library, preventing their reuse throughout the site. This change was made to allow the automatic deletion of images associated with old imported articles that were never published. News articles that were imported more than 3 months in the past and remain unpublished will be automatically deleted.
- #2662: The News Importer for Princeton Site Builder sources has been updated so that the "Source URL" field matches the same field from the source article. If no "Source URL" value is present on the source article, the URL of the source article will be used instead.
Publications
- #2652: Publication List blocks that output the author can now disable linking the author to their detail page
- #2655: The Publications List block, when configured to output selected fields, has a new option to output a line containing the journal information. This is only relevant for journal articles. Example output: Journal of the European Economic Association, Vol. 18(6), Dec 2020, 2715-2754
Webform
- #2610: Contact forms that have had no submissions, no email notifications setup, and are on sites using the Scholar theme have been removed. This is to prevent visitors from submitting the contact form without the site owner being aware. Affected forms were auto-generated when the site was first provisioned. Instead of a contact form, WDS recommends providing an email address on the website instead.
